Hello all. I recently looked into paruresis as this is a condition I have, indeed I think I've always had it (I'm 54 now). As a youngster I would always use a cubicle rather than a urinal. If going out, I avoid places where I know cubicles are not private and available. I also really struggle on trains or planes. In recent times it's got worse – I now struggle to urinate in our en-suite bathroom even though my wife is sleeping in the next room. So I've decided to join up and see if I can get get advice and support from this group. I'll take some time to read through your own experiences on this forum and I plan to sign up for a workshop – from what I've see, the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is the best route to explore. Thanks for listening! Andy
Hi Andy
Good to hear from you and very glad you have decided to read up about the condition and to sign up for a workshop. CBT is the way forward and the CBT approach used on the workshop will really move you forward. Feel free to ask questions, tell your story, etc etc. This is a safe place for that.
Cheers
Andrew
Welcome to the forum Dolphin68! It’s always to hear from someone new with the same condition.
I’ve put many posts on the forum sharing my techniques and successes which have all arisen from attending the workshop and the follow up workshop six years ago.
Once you have been to the workshops it’s important that you practice what you’ve been taught and it’s important to learn what you will be taught in the workshop paper work that you’ll get to take home with you. These are absolutely key to improving and managing your paruresis.
At the workshop you’ll find that the other men who are attending will have experienced the same things as you so they will relate to anything you have to say.
Good luck for your future.
