I have suffered in silence for 50yrs. Tried my GP a couple of times which was a waste of time. Tried things myself with limited success. I would say that my phobia is relatively severe. So, what can I expect to happen at a workshop? I am tempted but need to know what goes on.
You have asked me to tell you what goes on at a workshop. I deliberately don’t explain what goes on, because the paruretic personality will only find something off-putting, for the wrong reasons, and so will not attend.
Instead I hope you can accept the feedback from some of the 470 or so people who have attended a workshop over the last 13 years. (See our Discussion Board and search on the word Feedback.) The common refrain is that they too were very apprehensive, if not downright scared, that they were quickly put at ease, never had to do anything they did not want to do, and kicked themselves for not attending sooner.
Also everyone there, leaders included, has got paruresis to some degree or other, so even if you don’t talk about yourself, you will probably hear others do so and will find yourself saying yes, that’s me too; so I am no different, and they all look normal.
So I hope you can take me on trust: that we put together the workshops in a way that is discreet, and that takes into account the individual’s need for a safe environment and an unthreatening process.
Having said all that, I appreciate that there may be specific needs or concerns, so feel free to email me on the support email address the top of this page, and we can take address them appropriately.
hi Andrew, I've just finished the Manchester beginners workshop and I can thoroughly recommend it. There is nothing to fear about the weekend, yes I was nervous before going but I was soon put at ease on arrival and it only got better as the weekend went on. All the attendees had different levels of AP but we all had it and we could all talk about it openly, that in itself was worthwhile! Everyone on that workshop gained a great deal from the weekend and I am more than happy with the progress I made. All I can say is book up, you really won't regret it! jamie
Indeed we did all gain a great deal and i am glad you are more than happy with the progress you have made Jamie. As Jamie says here everyone... book up, you won't regret it.
