I am 30 years old and having suffered from shy bladder for as long as I can remember always assumed that I would grow out of this condition. Looking at some of the posts and information on this website it appears that this will not happen.
My question is therefore do these workshops really help and are they aimed at any age group? I can not use any urinals when others are around although as soon as everyone leaves I can go with no problems. This causes no end of problems when out for a night in busy pubs/clubs. In addition I often struggle in cubicles if others are around - a position where I have been thrown out of a pub in the past as it was assumed I was doing something illegal in a cubicle rather than simply trying to empty my bladder.

Peter, Since you have the same name as me and a similar degree of paruresis to what I experienced, you might like to hear about the two Workshops that I have attended. Firstly, there were blokes of all ages ranging from a young student of 19 to an oldie like me - I was 84 at the time ! All of them were very friendly and, perhaps surprisingly, just ordinary people like you might meet in the street at any time. In some ways, meeting them was possibly the best part of the experience because it helped you to realise that you are not the freak that you might have thought yourself to be - a big psychological benefit. There is no embarrassment, no pressure - just sympathetic help from the organisers - very experienced and dedicated men who have suffered from the same problem themselves. I would recommend that you seriously consider going on a Workshop yourself. You will actually enjoy it as well as improving your "performance". And you can start on making an improvement already by reading and acting on the advice in Stephen Soifer's excellent book "Shy Bladder Syndrome". It gives you some idea of what to expect on a Workshop. Keep posting - it helps. Pete.

Hi Peter,
A workshop will defiantely help you out. You will come away with a new found confidence of beating this and you will have a whole new way of looking at it.
Its easy to read this and think 'thats all well and good, but probably wont help me' but this is the best thing you can do. I was 24 when I went on my first workshop and was the youngest there, and got on really well with everyone. Dont hesitate, just book onto one or email support@ukpt.org.uk for anymore info.
