Forthcoming Flight.....

Well,

Always seems that I run to this page like a preverbal blanket for comfort whenever I experience angst leading upto a flight. I know that I have always "survived" all will more than likely be alright; he writes crossed fingered, when I get on my flight this friday. Why, why, why, do I always get myself in such a knot about it, the fear of being unable to pee on a flight when I have done it for the past 2 flights to the USA over 2 years; and yes I posted here too....

My wife, as always is very supportive, and bless her for her understanding, my daughter is oblivious (7 Years old) and not something I want her to know that her supposed tower of strength, that's me, good old Dad, is a whimpering melt.

I attended a workshop (Quite a while ago), and it has paid dividends many times over, and would not hesitate to say to anyone to attend, it really is life changing. But there are moments during the year, or events that occur or you plan which pose a stumbling block, and I'm afraid I've hit that at the moment, and looking for some re-assurance, if put truly, that I must remember all those things I learnt on the workshop, wish I hadn't read the Gatwick South article, since thats my departure point, but I found them OK, having flown out to the USA on both occassions and a few European ones late last year. Anyway, writing this is easing my mind and putting me into focus that I must be more positive about myself. Just need to build that thought up over the next few days!!

Anticipation is always so much worse than the event itself. Why? Because the Boo Monster works overtime to dredge up all sorts of unlikely scenarios. And you let him, instead of telling him to **** off!

You know how to deal with dodgy suppliers, or people trying to pull a fast one on you; I know you do, cos you have told me about them. So imaging it is them trying to freak you out, and deal with them as you know how!

Oh.. and a revision of what you learned would help..... and a reminder of all the times you have peed OK would help too.

You are NOT a wimpering melt!! You are a man, a respected husband, a much loved father, not to mention friend, work coleague, boss etc etc. You just hapen to have a problem peeing in certain situations.

That problem dosn't define you, so don't let it.

Thank you for bringing these things into perspective and your guidance. Still feeling pretty shaky but I am trying to deal with it as best I can, and you are right, to think positively about all those times I have successfully pee'd.
Staying overnight at Gatwick, so don't expect much sleep, but will try and pyhsc myself up to be in a more positive mind set and try and enjoy the flight, a damn sight less than going to the USA, but still 5 and a half hours.... (Egypt), bogs out there are BAD, always a toilet attendant, part of my panic I suppose, because I've been out there 8 times before, but their toilets are definitely not AP friendly, but then again who knows maybe they are different now! Certainly is going to be a challenge!! Here I go ago, bugger off Boo Monster...

Will update here when i'm out there if I can, and tell you if all has been good, there you go PMA (Positive Mental Attitude)

It may help you go by shutting out external sounds and replacing them with running water.

Well I survived..... Had a real bad build up on this, and thanks to Andrew for bringing things back into perspective!

Night at Gatwick was Horrific, I caused myself so must unnecessary anguish and mental Angst you wouldn't believe it. The actual morning of the flight I was apprehensive but relatively calm considering I really didn't sleep at all. Fortunately the flight was on time, no delays as that causes me major problems, particularly when your on the plane and they announce it!!!! Flight was just under 5 hours, no desire to visit the loo, but went anyway, didn't go, but for the first time I didn't panic, and in fact the urge to pee came another 4 hours after the flight....Had no problems whatsoever on holiday stood at urinals with no problem, at the airport coming back I went absolutely fine, and the flight I could only pee sitting down!!! Bizarre...but I went.

The thought leading up to the travel drives me nuts and my mind is all over the place worrying about the pre-looming flight and travel, I actually got myself into thinking I had a bladder infection, which I didn't have. The mind is a very powerful and strange thing, I will be desensing this weekend, as I haven't done it for so long.

I am halfway house at the moment, euphoric at doing the trip, and have booked another holiday for August, only a 3 hour one, but I will desense leading up to that holiday and drink as usual before and during the flight.

Thanks to Geoff/Andrew for their support and for those out there thinking of attending a workshop just do it, it will change your live, I guarantee it!!!

Hi mate,

Glad all went ok. You sound just like I did before I found this site and attended a workshop! Iv got a 9 hour flight coming up in 4 weeks which I was petrified about before but now looking forward to it.

Sitting down is alot easier for me at any time, not sure why, maybe because you feel more enclosed???

Its good to see you're wanting to get back to de-sensing, it takes alot of dedication and effort so well done!

Sounds as if your on your way to the USA or Caribbean! Enjoy the flight, the long hauls are great fun from an entertainment perspective, plenty to occupy your mind. I did the flights for the past 2 years, and relaxed and enjoyed so much.

Well done !!

Great to hear that you decided to visit the loo on the flight. All these experiences help build a bank of positive memories to call on for when we need them. Unfortunately our minds seem far better at remembering the negatives.

Glad to hear your'e getting back to some desensing. Must admit, I haven't done much for a while. Not going to make much progress without some effort and time, I keep telling myself!

Peter - Yeah im going to Florida for my honeymoon. I dont think iv ever seen a plane toilet before, maybe once when I was young, but I know ill be fine so not worried.
