Beer helps me go!!!

Hello again

Since my first post yesterday i been reading as many posts as i could and scanning the site for info.I just read mike's post about him going to the Philippines and how he got on aboard the plane and was sorry to here that after all the positives you had you then had some negatives specially whilst on a long flight like that.

But reading about you taking Valium and drinking vodka to alter your state of mind made me remember a time in Newcastle.I had been roped into going by three of my friends to watch football and get drunk (obviously) the thought of this swam in my head all the time before that trip was to commence.I was also meant to be going to Blackpool for a night out but a football injury from the day just so happened to be to soar for me to attend a few more weeks of bliss before Newcastle which try as i might i couldn't get out of.

So the day came to quickly s always and we set of and as if god hated me i found my self needing a pee about 20mins in of a 2.5 hour trip.About half way in (by this time i was bursting) we stopped at a small town called Kirby Stevens which i forgot to mention i been before whilst on my college trip i posted about(http://members.boardhost.com/paruresisUK/msg/1236604612.html) well in this town they have some toilets right in the middle of the small town and i had tried to use these before so knew what to expect but no luck as my friend just happened to need the loo as well.So on to Newcastle and as we arrived at my friends brothers house i found my self in this new loo no lock and i could every thing down stairs, i stood there for about 5 mins then heard my friends say wheres Matty "OH CRAP" i thought and stated to tear up at the thought of having to tell them of my curse BUT a miracle it would seem i started to pee HURRAY YIPPEE and WOOHOO but then remembered i still had the rest of the night.

Now i not going to carry on about every pub i went in but the mourning after (with a big hangover) i realised i gone the whole night drinking beer and had used the loos and the way home i mulled over what i remembered and tried to comprehend what had happened, i mean sometimes i could struggle in my loo at home which is like most APs is their safe loo and the only thing i could think of was the beer making me not care but when back i tried to replicate this in pubs in my home town with no such luck.This was in 2006 over 2 years ago i know now i should have took that night in Newcastle as a bloody huge step forward but as it a i shut myself off how i wish i could go back but i know that's not the way the only way forward is well forward so that's the way im gunna go.

Alcohol: for most guys, getting pissed mean they can piss as well. Alcohol loweres inhibitions and acts as a sedative. But what you can do when drunk has no effect on what you can do when sober; please do not go down the road of boozing to try to solve the problem; it doesn't and its a slippery slope to other problems.

Hi don't worry iv seen what booze can do i will definitely not go down that road and any way if i did i would not be helping myself or this website. I wouldn't want anyone to think booze was the answer.

Hi Matty, It's great to read your experiences - you are doing the right thing to get it off your chest. You may be amazed to hear that I actually envy you! Why? Because you are young, unlike me, and have already found this site and know that you are not alone in coping with this demon. You have your life before you and will be able to handle your paruresis and take it in your stride. For 80 years or more I thought I was the only one on the planet who had this "peculiarity" so you can guess what my life has been like. But a year ago I found this site and my life has been transformed. My attitude and performance are so much improved thanks to three things:- finding the site and corresponding with people on it, reading Stephen Soifer,s book (highly recommended), and going on the UKPT Workshops. You have started on the road already - keep on and you WILL succeed. Best of luck to you.

Hi Matty,
Glad to hear that you know that beer isn't the answer! You're right that it does lower your inhibitions, though. That's what desensing will do for you too. And what's more, it will last and be available to you all the time. You're on the right road, Matty. As Andrew says, read the info on the main site about how to go about desensing. It works!! Oh and by the way, God doesn't hate you (as you thought on that coach trip), just the opposite in fact!

Hi Matty,

You're right about the alchole business, it can be a great help on a night out! I remember once when I was younger getting drunk at a pub with some friends and was really worried about using to loo. After failing to go, I accidently got wasted and by the time I was sober, I couldnt remember a thing!

Dont rely on it though, if you drink too much and you still cant go, you're in trouble!

Good to hear that beer is a help!

One of the reasons I'm really thinking about this problem at the moment is that I have a stag do in May and the last couple I've been on have been a bit of a nightmare because of my AP (well, actually great fun but just a bit nerve wracking every couple of hours - I think it's partly all the uncertainty over the type of toilets - I always feel better if I know what's coming)... it's good to know that being a bit hammered may help... I hadn't really considered this before!
