relief at finding this group!

I have been AP since my teens and being in my early forties now, never having been completely free of the problem, think its high time I posted here! Still being 'avoidant' means I don't get the best out of life. I feel it has led to my general lack of 'career success'

I've been married for 14 years and my wife has been and still is very supportive ( she's known for years since before we were married) and that's helped.

Approaching the GP didn't really help (I have been to two, both when I was about 18) - first one donned the surgical glove to check for some physical obstruction and tick that off his list, second one was sympathetic but wasn't really able to help.

I dont want to go on now, but I do like writing about the situations I get into, seeing the funny side only helps.

Will keep an eye out for upcoming workshops

Welcome to the groups Gus. From what you have written you seem to be handling your AP quite well. Take a look at the advice on the site and get yourself on a workshop and I'm sure you will take giant srides forward just as I did.

Your experience with the doctor is certainly not unique, AP really is a well kept secret.

Hi Gus. Well you are now amongst friends. Everyone posting on this site has the same condition as you. Yes, I know you thought you were the only one in the world! - we all did! But as Steve M says, take a good look at all the stuff on this site, it will really help. And keep posting, and reading all the other posts on this site. You will see then that you are not alone. You do seem to have a handle on it, and don't seem to be letting it get to you too much, but as you say, it is restricting your life. Don't let it! Fight back! I would recommend a workshop when you can manage it. It is an excellent springboard to a new life with AP under control!

Thanks for the replies guys. I have become pretty philosophical about it over the years, but can forsee being free of the issue too. cheers
