Desensing and Depression

Please be very careful when encouraging desensing. After failing to improve

I have analysed AP far too much and have gone into a severe depression which I don`t seem to be able to get out of.

Hi Ray, sorry to hear of your depression. You say you failed to improve following the desensing route. Did you do this on your own (which is difficult), or did you attend a workshop?
Do feel free to speak about your depression. It is the first step to dealing with it.

Andrew, I was desensing alone and fear I have analysed the whole thing too much that I am afraid to go out. I would like to send a private e mail but the link on the web page was not working. Can you help?

Hi Ray,

If I may add something - I tried myself to do desensing alone to get over the condition as well and I also got very down when I couldn't progress how I wanted. I ended up massively overanalysing things too and this was actually counter-productive in many ways. If you have not been on a workshop, I would really recommend to attend one if you can. Instead of doing things alone, where you have all the time in the world to think (and, as such, over-think) the issue, you approach desensing in an environment where someone vastly experienced (Andrew) is helping to advise you and you're with others in the same boat so you're not isolated. It really, really does help, especially mentally in how you deal with AP.

I hope you feel better soon. I know what a horrible, frustrating and isolating condition this can be.

Bill, Thanks this is quite helpful. It is such a restricting condition leading to isolation. I often wonder how the other sufferers cope with it. I have coped with it for 38 years until now when I Suddenly cracked when I realised how bad it was.
