I recently attended this weekend course, having gone to the beginners course in summer 2013 in Manchester. I remember feeling so much happier and more optimistic after leaving the first course and proud that I had managed to find the courage to attend. It altered my attitude to my AP and since then I have become accepting of the condition, been less hard on myself and consequently my anxiety levels around the AP have reduced (which then helps to me to go sometimes!). However I still have a long way to go and so I booked myself onto the follow-up course.
Once again I found myself making decent progress and feeling much happier with my current situation. Like most people I had fallen out of my desensing routine and my avoidance activities had starting creeping back in. Attending the refresher course helped re-ignite my determination to keep working on this condition and enabled me to push myself forward. At the end of the weekend I had made much more progress than I initially expected too.
Mixing with lots of guys, getting to hear their stories and being able to discuss this condition that we all share in common is so useful and therapeutic. Once again every single person I spoke to seemed like a top bloke that I could happily have a beer with and natter away too, with all different backgrounds, professions and even countries present! Andrew and Peter were once again superbly supportive and their experience in this subject is so extensive. I even managed to pick their brains on my other anxiety related issues, not just the AP ones... bonus!
If you are an AP sufferer and are considering whether or not you need to attend a follow up session then probably the answer is yes, yes you do. And if you do attend one then hopefully you will find it as useful and positive an experience as I did.
Thanks again to Andrew, Peter and the rest of the gang on the workshop weekend. I wish you all the very best of luck for the future.
Re: Feedback on follow up London course 1-3rd Aug 14
This was my first follow-up workshop after attending the beginners one in earlier this year. I was great seeing some of you guys again and meeting the new faces as well. I am still surprised with myself and the progress I made once again thanks to Andrew, Peter and all of you ! At first I was worried I would be the only one which had been, let's say, a little lazy with my homework and worried I would be behind everyone else's progress... Turns out we all had this worry, so there was no need to worry in the first place
Take care, Cédric
Re: Feedback on follow up London course 1-3rd Aug 14
Attending a follow up Workshop has been extremely helpful......perhaps more than words can express. There’s many elements that make it so special and I like to think my words apply to all those that attended it which themselves were just some of those that are well used to ‘putting up’ with the not so pleasant social difficulties of having AP. Therefore getting the opportunity to speak with others openly for a few days is just great and something that is just not normally doable in our everyday lives. Another big plus is really being with such a nice group of people
If you had already been on a beginner’s workshop or are thinking about it just now don’t think about anymore because the best advice I can give you is to just ‘do it’ and secure yourself a place right now for the next one. And when you get there you will really wonder why you ever did (like me) worry so much about going to it because any initial worries you may have had a first melt away very very quickly indeed in the company of the others around you. The actual de sensing itself takes precedence – but how much you do, when & where is simply up to you and there is No pressure.
I would say that it was really worthwhile weekend for me where I surpassed what I thought could have been achieved before turning up. I would like to say a huge massive thanks to arrangers and course leaders because they did a truly sterling job where we all continually felt that they were there for us to fully support us as individuals whatever rung of the ladder that we on.
Re: Feedback on follow up London course 1-3rd Aug 14
Almost 2 months on from the August workshop and I am still feeling the benefits. The primary reason I attended was that, not to, was considered a form of avoidance. The follow up workshop, in my experience, was equally if not more important than the beginners. While revising some of the ideas/theory set out in the beginners workshop there was more emphasis on desensing. I would encourage attendance of a follow-up course. Not only is there the opportunity to desense but there is the advantage of meeting guys in similar situations. Chatting to other men about their experiences can be very helpful indeed.
