It turns out my pissing problem is also physical

Hey all, i did one of the workshops a few years ago amongst other things ive tried to beat paruesis which have all had little to no effect. So at my wits end i had a cystoscopy just to rule out an possible physical issues. So i had the cystoscopy yesterday (not pleasant) where a 'narrow bladder neck' was diagnosed. They have given me some medication to combat the symptoms and if they dont work, then there is the option of surgery.

So this is something of a double whammy in which the mental and physical sides of this problem have been feeding from each other all this time. But I'm pretty relieved now that i finally know what the root cause of all these years of chronic pissing problems, so now im confident that when my physical issues get resolved i can go on to beat the mental problems caused by this.

Anyway, i hope some of you find this post useful. I had no idea i had any physical problems, i only got the cystoscopy done as i felt i had nowhere else to turn. Now i wishing i'd had it done a lot sooner. Not suggesting that you all rush out and get the procedure done, but it is food for thought.

Hi Dan

Glad you have found a reason for the why the normal CBT stuff was not working for you. We always advise people to get checked out by a urologist, just in case there is a physical contributing factor, as there is with you. But the acid test is that if one can pee in a self-declared "safe" place, but not in "unsafe" places, the cause is likely to be psychological in origin.

So the question is: could you pee reliably in safe places?

Hi Andrew,

Thats a good question. Usually i'm ok in safe places, but often it would take too long to start peeing, even if i was home alone. I always just put this down to that i had developed an overall fear of toilets, whether they were safe or not. And because i've had this problem for so long, i didnt know any different. It just seemed normal for me to be stood there for a while before anything happened.

Do you know what's in the medication? What the active ingredient is? I also have quite a long hesitation even when at home, although some times more so than other times.... I have recently cut out caffeine and alcohol, just an experiment to see what the effect is (caffeine is diuretic and alcohol restricts blood flow)

I have heard dandelions were once used for bladder infections, but I'd be interested to try to find different foods/drinks that would potentially help with the flow.

I'm getting checked out for the same thing shortly and really glad my doctor advised against a catheter now.

I take to long even at home and I have had various test all been negative I am hoping to get a flow check.But when fully loaded it up level 7-8 I peed straight away.As Andrew says it is both physical and mental.

Hi Simon,

The medication i was given is called Contiflow XL. I just checked and the active ingredient is Tamsulosin hydrochloride if thats of any help. However, ive stopped taking it already as it was causing me too many side effects. I did some research and it seems that these side effects i was experiencing are very common with users of this medication.

Yes I would look into more natural remedies personally.... I have found just by looking online several foods that were good and bad for thinning my blood and improving my circulation - with the results i wanted. I'm sure there's advice for prostate as well.

Since your original post I have given up caffeine and been drinking nettle tea instead (just two or three cups a day and plenty of water inbetween) and have also started doing kegal exercises twice a day (http://uk.askmen.com/dating/love_tip_60/67_love_tip.html ), and I have noticed in the last few days my hesitation has improved slightly and my flow is much more powerful.

This has been combined with more than average (for me) desensing. I think as an AP sufferer there is an instinct to do things to disrupt the flow and things we do that can cause problems such as prostate/urine retention/hesitation - as these things I guess mean we go to the toilet less - so the desensing is necessary so that we are confident to go more frequently - which in turn hopefully builds more confidence.

Hope that helps. If anyone else tries or has tried the kegal exercise or giving up caffeine I'd be interested to hear if you've have any improvements. Thanks.
