Haven't been keeping up with messages on here I'm afraid, but just been reading "The Brain that Changes Itself" by Norman Doidge and though I'd mention it. It isn't particular related to overcoming phobias, but is a good read, fascinating and I think shows how de-sensitisation can work. It's spurred me on to make a bit more of an effort, even though I feel that paruresis is a relatively small problem for me (relaive to a very big problem a few years ago that is).
It's basically all about brain 'plasticity' and how people can recover from quiet serious strokes and other brain damage. If you want some background reading on how the brain works I'd defnitely recommend it.
Thanks, I have just bought it and what a fascinating read it is too. One relevant point it makes is that when one reaches a plateau and feels that progress has stalled, in fact the brain is using the time to consolidate what is newly learnt.
So this allows one to see a plateau as a positive step and not a negative one.
There's loads more as I have only started reading it today.
