Hope you are all ok. I am a fellow sufferer of "shy bladder syndrome" and while I was always aware that the problem existed, I never really ever looked in to the problem. My friends know about it, and I've never had any problems informing people of my fear. It doesn't really affect me that much in public toilets, for my fear is of people hearing me wee. I don't like the noise that having a wee makes. If I am in a public toilet I tend to look at the shape of the basin, and if it's a large busy area I am ok, for nobody can single me out. If however it's a small area and the toilet is shaped in a way that it's likely to be noisy I can't go.
My problem is one that I am happily open about, but I know it is getting worse. I have a few memories from my childhood which may have brought on the condition, so I'm going to go to the Doc's next week to have a chat, and hopefully be referred to a psycologist for some "life coaching".
You know you have a problem when you are at your (sort of) boyfriends and have to leave at 1am to go home for a wizz, only to return 15 minutes later, or wake up at 4.30 am, and decide to go home.......
Anyway wish me luck next week.

Hi Ashley,
I relaise that you may have thought of this, but have you tried placing loo roll down to reduce or remove the noise of peeing? x
I've tried many things with the toilet part, but throwing loo roll down just tends to make a different noise that I equally dislike.....
Andy I'm defo going to try to go to a workshop, but I don't think I will be able to go until next year!! I'm hoping that If I can get the process started through a doctor then it will keep me going and ease the situation a little until then........fingers crossed.

Ashley--
I think you can get more value (in every sense of the word) out of one weekend Workshop than you will from 52 week's of "life coaching." You've got an awful lot to gain by trying. Anyone who's been to one or more can tell you that it's a very POSITIVE experience where everyone is supporting and rooting for each other. Believe it or not, we even manage to laugh together at that old paruresis dragon. Good Medicine. Good Luck
