Well, I have just returned from the beginners workshop and I can't recommend it enough for anyone out there who is living with AP.
I guess the first thing is that we all know the feeling of relief we felt when we realised that we were not the only ones with this condition. Well, when you go on a beginners course and actually meet others in your situation that feeling is magnified much further .
Then there's the actual workshop itself which really puts everything in perspective and leaves you thinking about AP in a much different and more positive way to before. I won't lie and say that the workshop is just one big period of shining light as you are generally faced with a whole series of ups and downs during it's duration but it certainly left me feeling armed and able to tackle my condition and to continue the improvements I made during the weekend away. The workshop was very well run by Andrew & Mert and the other people who attended were all very friendly and interesting people to know.
I know that I made the decision to attend a workshop after reading the views of others on here and I hope that this inspires others out there to book onto a workshop.
Thank you to Andrew & Mert especially for running such a great workshop.
Just thought i would reply to give my experience of the workshop.
I found it quite a big step just to even book myself on the workshop...and an even bigger step to turn up on the day.
Walking through that door to meet a bunch of strangers and discussing a sensitive subject isnt easy.....BUT once you are there you are soon put at ease, everyone is there for the same reason. Its all very laid back and informal, and I met a lot of nice people. It amazed me the diversity of people which AP effects.
The workshop itself gave me quite a different outlook on things....it helped me LOADS.....mainly it gave me an attitude change. That feeling of going into a toilet and feeling completely careless - with that attitude its amazing how easy it is to pee lol.
The worskop gives you the tools and knowledge that you need to improve, it isnt a wonder cure, but certainly helps no end..........so if your thinking about attending a workshop, stop thinking and attend!!
Before I arrived on the Friday evening, I was practically shaking in fear at the prospect of meeting complete strangers and sharing a weekend with them. Even during the first introductions my nerves were getting to me and I’m sure it was painfully obvious to the others (who may very well have been feeling the same).
Though I knew I’d be the youngest there and it might end up being awkward, by the following morning I realised age didn’t matter and we were all there to for the same reason. I met a group of friendly (and normal!) people who have had paruresis a lot longer than me, and to listen to similar experiences was comforting.
Anyway, thank you to Andrew, Mert and all the others for a very helpful weekend, one that I would strongly recommend.
