urinary incontinence

in a few weeks time i have to have an operation for rmoval of prostate gland, and one side-effect of this, is supposed to be urinary incontinence; and it is said that training of the the pelvic floor muscles will help; am i being optimistic in thinking that being an AP sufferer, those muscles etc. are so controllable, that i wouldnt have a problem...i mean, some of the horror stories one reads detail exactly the opposite of what an AP sufferer has

Hi Patrick
Due to no response to your message I'll just have my pennorth.
Really your questions should be directed to your consultant urologist as every case can be different and I would hate to mislead you.In my case some years ago my urologist did a turps operation on me which consisted of hollowing out the prostrate of the tissue and muscle fibre.It sounds very similar to your problem but might not be.I was warned there might be a small chance of slight incontinence.The result was I had no incontinence whatsoever ,however there was no improvement in my paruresis-----Ah Well.

Hi Patrick

I'm sorry but I have no experience or knowledge in this area. The little I have heard does suggest that everyone is different, and so you will have to wait and see. Certainly what you say about muscle control could well apply.

yes, thank you for the responses

in a bizarre sort of way, i am actually wondering, if, as a result of weakened muscles/valves etc. one had a degree of incontinence, then what would happen in a public situation, would the AP that has a strong mental base override the muscular weakness
