How annoying that I missed this. I'm 48 and have had this problem since I was 15. It was only 10 years ago (thank you, internet) that I realised I was not the only person in the world who suffered from this (when I got up the confidence to discuss this with my GP 15 years ago, he was frankly dismissive and made me feel even more isolated and miserable). Just knowing that I am not alone with this has given me the confidence to use public toilets (and even bathrooms in friends houses) - although always in a cubicle - without crippling self-consciousness; and I have improved massively over the last 10 years. However, I still 'self-censor' when it comes to travel, days out and social events. I will keep a closer eye on the site and look forward to the next London workshop. The comments posted here are very encouraging ....
