Hi, I've undergone investigation for a possible prostate disorder which involves visiting hospital for tests using special urinals and today an invasive test in a Urodynamic x-ray room. Despite trying to explain to my consultant that I suffer from shyness when peeing in public I was persuaded to attempt this test knowing that I would have to pee in a large room with two nurses present and the consultant himeslf. Despite lots of reassurance and the turning on of taps and discussions about my forthcoming holiday I was absolutely unable to pee at all and no meaningful results where gleaned from the session. I felt that I had let them down and felt somewhat of a failure. Reading about this "condition" on this site has been a big relief. I have suffered from the inability to pee in public since being five years old when I remember being asked to pee in a sluice room following a tonselectomy for a nurse who soon got very tired my reluctance to perform on demand. I have always subsequently preferred to pee in private and sometimes then not at all if anxious. Despite several visits to my consultant no mention has ever been made that this condition exists and affects others. Mention has been made by his nursing colleagues of "it's only mind over matter" whereas I now realise that I am experiencing an involuntary response and can get help. I feel so relieved.
