Deciding to look for help

Thank you to everyone who has posted messages on here, It is good to see I am not alone. I am 55 living in north London and have had great difficulty using public toilets since primary school. I went through secondary school and university without using their toilets at all. Work is difficult, but now I've been in the same job for 24 years, its one of the few public places I can now use. My life is seriously impacted. I never travel abroad. Flying would be out of the question. I rarely travel distances. If I go out for a day I need to be able to get back home within a reasonable time. There are some days I have got a train to central London and turned straight round and gone home. I have been excused Jury service as the thought would be a nightmare. I work myself up into such a state about even thinking of using a public toilet before I go out, it becomes a self-fulfilling event and I cannot use them. Even a single lockable toilet. There seems to be no reason to any of it. As I have got older, I cannot hold myself the lengths of time I used to. This is seriously affecting my day to day life. To deal with this, and other anxiety issues, I have been referred to NHS therapy service but I am on an 11 month minimum waiting list. I have seen the courses you offer but I'm not sure i could travel to one of these sessions. Does anyone have any suggestions for CBT therapists in the north London area that might be able to help at a reasonable cost? Already your site has given me hope. But I know I need professional help rather than trying to do it alone.

HI Tasman
I forgot to say that I too have paruresis, though it no longer affects my life; so you would be talking to someone who is in the same boat. Very important that!
