Toilet phobia: Understanding distress associated with using public toilets
Do you experience strong difficulties or concerns about using toilets outside your own home?
Participants Needed for Research Study on Toilet Phobia- University College London
Toilet phobia - or ‘paruresis,’ - can cause real distress to people and have a negative effect on their day-to-day lives. For some people, their concern about using public toilets has to do with being heard or seen going to the toilet. For others it may be to do with hygiene and worries that using public toilets may cause contamination of some sort. Some people are not sure why they have difficulties using toilets outside their own home.
We are looking for participants who experience significant difficulties with using public toilets for a research study being conducted at University College London. The study involves completing an online questionnaire and is completely anonymous.
By helping us with this research we can improve our understanding of this distressing condition, possibly helping us to develop new treatments. All information you provide will be kept strictly confidential.
