Great link - Jon Snow is such a legend and now even more so!

These are exactly the kind of urinals I hate - just two together with no divider, and probably completely silent too just to make you feel even more self-conscious about things! Coincidentally they're also just like the ones in the loo at the new company I'm joining in a couple of months, so I better get used to them!

Congrats on the new job!
I've got exactly the same at my work. I've got used to using them when they are empty but it's still a no go when anyone comes in. Thing is, if someone does come in you can make out that you've just finished and they're none the wiser.
Have you got access to something similar to practice in before taking up your new job?

All credit to Tavistock council in Devon. They have just rebuilt the public loos there. Each urinal is in a separate lockable cubicle (with washbasin too) just like the WCs. The most AP friendly ones I have ever seen.

Sounds great if you're at the stage of needing to be in private to be able to go but it's not going to help us overcome the problem of not being able to go in someone elses presence. I seem to have reached a bit of a plateau with being able to go easily in an empty urinal but not a chance (yet!) when there's another guy there. Don't know about you guys but I don't want to hide away in a cubicle anymore, I want to pee free!!

On the subject of new public toilets, those in the shopping centre that was opened in Bury St Edmunds today hardly match up to those in Tavistock. For what is expected to be a busy area they seem quite in adequate - only five urinals, close together with no dividers, and two cubicles. This is about half the capacity of the old ones which were demolished in the process of "development". It looks as if the developers, knowing that the provision of new toilets was mandatory, have got away with as little as possible. Obviously nobody with paruresis had a hand in this!
