I was wondering if anyone has ever tried NLP, Neuro-linguistic programming. It is the technique that Paul McKenna uses on TV and i'm sure many of you have witnessed him change peoples lives, either for humor or for more serious reasons. It is obviously a technique that works for some issues. But has anyone here tried it for Paruresis?
The reason im asking is because if been doing some searching and there is a NLP Pratitioner ony 5 mins down the road from me, she charges £50 an hour and I was curious as to if I should persue.
I am aware that CBT is the most effective method but after going to my GP in August 2006, seeing a urologist in November/December 2006 and then getting a letter in January 2007 saying I would be refered for CBT I have not heard anything since....I regularly call up the telephone number on the urologists letter but it just rings out.
Help please.

Hi Mike
I have not tried NLP, but I do know an NLP practitioner who says she has had success with three private clients. So it could be worth a try. However do note that it does not have an instant effect, in the way that the TV stuff may seem to do. Like CBT, it still takes time and several visits; hence it will cost more than £50!
As for your urologist: any referral for CBT should have been from your GP. Rather than phoning your urologist, try your GP instead.
I think NLP is a good approach to take to resolving paruresis.
As Andrew says though, be careful who you choose for this. Ideally you want someone who has had success with clients to date.
My NLP guy was going by research and hard as he tried he had no frame of reference so it didn't work in the end. I'm still open to NLP (and anything else!) but looking carefully for someone who has experienced paruresis clients before.
I've found this site to be a great resource too as it's unlikely you'd get an AP NLP reference from "the street"!
Also considering the Manchester workshop in September. Everyone seems to rave about them.
