The de-sensing is very useful. I went from peeing in a locked bathroom with a buddy across the room to going in a busy public urinal; always of my own choosing, I hasten to add. This shows the progress you can make in a workshop. The workshop is an incredibly safe space at the same time. At no point did I feel like I was doing something I didn't want and even had people asking if I was happy at the stage I was at during regular intervals, giving me an opt out at any point. I was so anxious about the workshop but the workshop is run by fellow sufferers who know what it is like to have this anxiety so they don't put you out of your comfort zone at any point. They understand how you feel and go above and beyond to make sure you feel comfortable at all times.
I was nervous before I went to the workshop, just like everybody else. The leaders knew this would be the case and within 5 minutes, they made all of us feel safe and like we could relax. Everything said was confidential. Anybody could leave at anytime. My one regret is that I allowed myself to suffer with this for as long as I did without coming to a workshop. It takes guts to sign up but you really have nothing to lose and SO MUCH TO GAIN.
Thank you so much to Andrew and Ian for making the weekend possible. What you do is incredible. 117
