U.K. PARURESIS TRUST: How this message board works

This Discussion Board is for men who find it difficult or impossible to urinate in a public or social situation. It is maintained and moderated by the U.K. Paruresis Trust (UKPT), a registered UK Charity (no: 1109541). The people involved with the UKPT are all unpaid volunteers who themselves have or have had this condition. Note however that we are not medically or psychologically trained; any advice comes only from our own experience.

The ethos of this board is to be welcoming, supportive, non-judgemental, and positive. The aim is to provide a safe place for men, to “talk” to others who understand what they are going through. You can tell your story, ask questions, ask for advice, celebrate a success, and unload about a problem. You can also reply to existing messages, in which case we ask you to do so in like spirit. It is totally private: if you feel that even signing yourself John is a dead give-away, then use an alias.

As the board is here for issues to do with Shy Bladder Syndrome (SBS), it is open to everyone regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, political persuasion etc etc. On that basis it is NOT here for the promotion of issues to do with gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, political persuasion etc etc.

By the nature of the condition, some postings can be, and cannot avoid being, gender specific. Please accept that and be sure that we aim to keep such postings within acceptable bounds, bearing in mind that this board may be the only place that an individual can air his anxiety about such an issue.

The Board is moderated. That means that it is actively monitored on a daily basis to ensure:
a) that postings are answered as necessary
b) to edit postings where necessary for purposes of clarity
c) to edit postings to remove any terms or phrases that could cause offence, or could attract the wrong readers via search engines
d) to remove any malicious or inappropriate postings; this happens rarely (say twice a year)
e) to block a malicious poster; again this is rare – about twice in four years.

To be able to moderate this board, postings have to be in English. Unless by agreement, posting in foreign languages will be deleted.

A message with its associated replies is called a thread. The moderators can post a message that stays at the top of the list for permanent display – such as this one. Such messages cannot be replied to within the thread, but you can start a new thread, or email us directly.

Normal threads are shown in date order of the latest posting i.e. when first posted, it will appear at the top under any moderator’s posting. As further new postings occur they will go above it, so pushing it down the list. When it is replied to, it will be moved back to the top of the list. Hence to check for threads you have not read yet, or that may contain replies you have not read yet, just start at the top and look at the date of the latest posting within each thread. Once it is older than the last date you looked, you are up to date.
