For many years, I suffered from a severe case of paruresis – long before the condition had a name or treatment programs became available. Now, fully recovered, I decided to write a book to offer hope and inspiration to bathroom-challenged people – women and men - everywhere.
Bathrooms Make Me Nervous is not just a book for women because of its universal approach. It offers strategies for coping as well as detailed exposure-based protocols for full recovery. Anyone can benefit from reading the book: sufferers, clinicians, and support people.
Readers will discover:
▪ they are not the only ones in the world who suffer
▪ how to disclose paruresis to others
▪ practical suggestions and extensive illustrations that help apply the information and techniques, including tips for traveling
▪ updated treatment methods (breath holding)
▪ alternatives to bathroom use
▪ the effects of bathroom design on a paruretic’s life
▪ biographical accounts of those who cope and recover (me included)
▪ a listing of valuable resources
As the International Paruresis Association (IPA-US) Women's Coordinator, Advisory Board Member, Workshop Leader and "Talk Forum" Moderator, I have taken the extensive knowledge I acquired about the shy bladder condition and turned it into a practical and comprehensive guidebook that I hope you will enjoy.
To learn more about the book’s content, please go to my website at http://www.bathroomsmakemenervous.com.
To buy a copy, my book is available on the Alibris UK website at http://www.alibris.co.uk/
